Cogent Launches Blog about Real-Time Cloud Computing
Shared learning about real-time cloud computing for
industrial and embedded applications.
Georgetown, Ontario (November 3, 2011) Cogent Real-Time Systems announces the launch
of a blog, Real-Time
Cloud, to discuss the challenges and opportunities
related to putting real-time data into cloud-based systems,
particularly for industrial and embedded applications. The
blog will discuss the technical practicalities, best
practices, and business realities facing executives, managers,
and engineers who are looking to benefit from this new stage
in the evolution of computing.
"We have a natural interest in cloud computing," said
Andrew Thomas, President of Cogent, "and we believe that an
open, public dialog is the best way to produce real progress in
that space. Working with real-time data is fundamentally
different from how most people are using the cloud right now,
and it will require different technical approaches, and possibly
new business models as well. The purpose of this blog is to
share our thinking and open the discussion about cloud computing
and real-time systems."
Cogent has been working in the field of real-time data
communications and middleware for over 15 years, and has
launched such innovative products as the Cascade DataHub for
networking Excel spreadsheets, the OPC DataHub to provide OPC
tunnelling and network connectivity for OPC-based applications,
and most recently, the Cogent DataHub and DataHub WebView to
support web- and cloud-based visualization of data from
real-time and embedded systems.
The Real-Time Cloud blog will discuss some of the
technical decisions behind these innovations, as well as
challenges yet to be dealt with. Its purpose is to look at the
issues and opportunities relevant to system integrators,
engineers, and managers of industrial and embedded applications
for deriving the full benefit of cloud-based systems, while
avoiding any potential pitfalls.
Founded in 1995, Cogent provides proven
middleware products to enable real-time data integration and
distribution for industrial, embedded, and financial
systems. Customers include Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, IBM, GE,
Statoil, Goodyear, BASF, Cadbury Chocolate, and the Bank of
Canada. Cogent DataHub and DataHub WebView are either registered
